The Turkish Riveiera has won a record number of Blue Flags for 2007.
The Blue Flag programme is owned and run by the independant non profit organisation ''Foundation for Environmental Education'' (FEE).
The award opf the Blue Flag beach is based on a compliance with 29 criteria covering the aspects of:
1. Envıronmental education and Information
2. Water Quality
3. Environmental Management
4. Safety and Services
The beaches are reviewed by a national jury (made up of experts within the country) and then an International jury. If the b each is successful and awarded the flag they are visited at least once a year by a national controller . If the criteria is not been met then the Blue Flag will be removed until the criteria is fixed.
As well as clean water standardsö Blue flag beaches must have; beach patrols, recycable waste disposal facilities, first aid materials, a management committee, access to toilets and a code of conduct which is enforced.
