Rahmi Koç was born in 1930 in Ankara, into a family with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. His father, Vehbi Koç, founded one of Türkiye’s most influential conglomerates, Koç Holding, in 1926. After completing his education at Robert College in Istanbul and later at Johns Hopkins University in the U.S., Rahmi joined the family business in 1958. One of his most notable contributions was the establishment of Tofaş, a joint venture with Fiat, which became a cornerstone of Türkiye’s automotive industry.

Beyond business, Rahmi Koç was deeply committed to education and culture. He played a key role in founding Koç University in 1993, which has since become one of Türkiye’s leading institutions. He also supported the restoration of historical sites, including the Rahmi M. Koç Museum in Istanbul, which showcases the history of industry, transportation, and communication.
