Power cuts in Alanya
Power Cuts in Turkey: What Homeowners Should Know
Compared to European countries, power cuts are much more frequent in Turkey. However, nowadays they are normally pretty short and rarely last longer than 10-15 minutes, with the majority lasting just a minute or two.
In rare cases, it takes a bit longer, but in cities and residential areas, it is very unusual to have power cuts lasting more than an hour.
In the Alanya area, the power grid is always undergoing serious maintenance. And how do we know that? Simply because there are a lot of local power cuts. But these power cuts seem to be related to repair and upgrade work rather than breakdowns, which is, of course, very positive, at least in the long run.
The responsible company, CLK Akdeniz, has also posted a long list of already planned maintenance work—which means planned power cuts—on their website. Check the list for yourself to see when our area will fade to black: AKDENIZ EDAŞ
As a homeowner in Turkey, you need to take this into consideration. Buildings can basically be divided into two categories: those with and those without a functioning generator.
So how important and valuable is it to choose a complex with a generator? Is a generator a must-have when purchasing property in Turkey?
Since we believe that everyone can live with short power cuts (it might even be cozy with candles and flashlights), there is one other important thing to consider: the elevator. Without electricity, an elevator will simply stop operating. While it is not dangerous, it might not be very pleasant to be stuck inside.
So when choosing an apartment in a complex without a generator, carefully evaluate how much you will use the elevator and how you would react if you, your friends, or family got trapped inside it, waiting for the power grid to come back on.
