Explore the iconic Red Tower in Alanya, a historic landmark by the sea

The Red Tower (Kızıl Kule) is one of Alanya’s most recognizable landmarks, standing proudly at the entrance of the city’s ancient harbor. Built in 1226 under the rule of the Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubad I, this octagonal brick tower was designed to protect the harbor and the nearby shipyard from invasions. Its name comes from the reddish hue of the bricks used in its construction, which glow beautifully in the sunlight.
