In Turkey, local Land Registry Offices (Tapu Müdürlükleri) are open to the public during standard business hours.

While official transactions, such as applying for or issuing a title deed, require an appointment, you can visit without one for general inquiries or smaller questions.

When visiting a Land Registry Office, foreigners should keep the following in mind:

Language Considerations

Official procedures are conducted in Turkish, though some staff may speak English. For official transactions, you must bring a sworn translator to ensure accurate communication. For informal questions, English speaking staff - if available - will assist you to the best of their ability.

Documentation Requirements

All foreign documents submitted to the Land Registry Office must be translated by a public notary and legalized with an apostille stamp.

It’s important to note that foreign documents are only accepted if issued in the official language of the country of origin. For example, a German marriage certificate must be in German, as that is the official language of Germany. Documents issued in English or any other language will not be accepted.

Identity Verification

Foreigners must present their original passport to verify their identity at the Land Registry Office. This is a mandatory step for all transactions.

Confidentiality at the Land Registry in Turkey

Strict confidentiality standards are used to safeguard the personal and property-related information of all individuals, including foreign buyers.

This means that only the registered owner(s) of a property - or their legally authorized representatives - can access detailed and personal information about a property.

Only non-personal information such as zoning status or plot boundaries is publicly accessible, while personal ownership details remain confidential.
