Explore the ancient ruins of Colybrassus near Alanya, Türkiye
Tucked away in the Taurus Mountains, the ancient city of Colybrassus offers a fascinating glimpse into Roman history. Located near the modern village of Güzelbağ/strong>, about 45 km northeast of Alanya, these ruins are a hidden treasure for history enthusiasts.
To get there, drive or take a taxi from Alanya, following the road toward Konakli and then turning inland toward Güzelbağ. The journey takes around 1 hour and offers scenic views of the countryside. Once there, you’ll find remnants of an ancient theater, a basilica, and city walls that once stood as part of a thriving Roman settlement.
While visiting, take a self-guided walking tour through the ruins. The theater, though partially overgrown, still gives a sense of the city’s past grandeur. The site is relatively quiet, making it a peaceful spot to explore at your own pace.
Bonus tip: Bring a picnic and enjoy it in the shade of the olive trees near the ruins—it’s a great way to soak in the atmosphere.
The best time to visit is during spring (April-May) or autumn (September-October), when temperatures are mild. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and a hat, as shade is limited.
