When I entered the quaint Yenihal market on Friday morning in the northern part of Alanya, I was completely overwhelmed by the numerous sensations from all the different fruits, spices, colours, sounds and people that I encountered.
One of the first things I saw were the many small stalls from which all kinds of clothes, shoes and knick-knacks were being sold at very good prices! Whenever I found something I liked a seller would come up to me and we would start to haggle over the price. This can be a lot of fun and you usually end up with a really good bargain especially if you compare prices with those of Northern Europe! After this I found my way through the narrow, covered path to the enormous fruit and vegetable market.
It really seemed as though every grower from the surrounding area had come to Alanya on this particular Friday to sell his goods! Everywhere I went in the market the fruit and vegetables looked really wonderful and fresh and I was allowed to check everything before buying. Many of the sellers even gave me samples to taste. And once again the prices really surprised me. It was so inexpensive to buy such good quality fresh fruit and vegetables that I simply could not help myself and I bought far too much to eat in one day. Consequently for the next few days I ate nothing but delicious fruit and vegetables!
So one thing is definite when I return to Alanya next summer, spending my Friday morning at the large, inviting Yenihal market is something that I just have to do.

Location: the Yenihal Market is situated between the 35 metre and 25 metre streets in the north-western part of Alanya.
Follow the 25 metre street until it crosses Oral Street by the large set of traffic lights. Then walk in a northerly direction for approximately 150 metres. On your left hand side you will find the Yenihal Market.
