If you do not already know, Turkey has been using the new Turkish Lira (YTL) for almost a year now. With effect from 1 January 2006 the old currency (notes and coins) will no longer be valid and so the ‘million’ note will be a thing of the past!

Many of you however may still have some of these old coins and notes. What to do with them as they are no longer in circulation? Well you can change them at T.C Merkez Bank or T.C Ziraat Bank branches as follows:

Banknotes within 10 years
Coins within 1 year (by end of 2006)

In the meantime the currency will continue to be known as YTL until such time as the Government decides otherwise!
