It is believed that Perge was established by the Greeks, who settled along the Anatolian coast after conquering Troy in the north western part of Turkey. Most of what we see today belongs to the Pax Romana period.

You come firstly to the theatre, capable of seating 15,000 spectators, and thereafter the stadium. The stadium is one of the best preserved of the ancient world.
Most famous however are the two Hellenistic gate towers which, together with the walls, are the only traces from the Hellenistic period.
