Kat // Floor

The word "kat" simply means floor. So when you live at "kat 3" it means living in 3rd floor.
As in many other countries the way to name and count floors can be a bit confusing.

Here is a list of Turkish floor names:
- Bodrum kat = Basement floor
- Zemin kat = Ground floor
- Bahçe kat = Garden floor
- Alt kat = Lower floor
- Üst kat = Upper floor
- Çati kat = Roof floor

So if your building has ground floor apartment and you live on the 5th floor, it will most likely say "4. kat" on your deed since the counting starts with the ground floor.
